I’m delighted to once again welcome you to Trafalgar Square for Diwali On The Square, one of the most joyful and colourful dates in our cultural calendar.

The Festival of Lights offers an enduring message that speaks to us all: that hope will always triumph over darkness, good will defeat evil, and compassion can overcome division and despair.

This year's theme, 'Preserving the flame, illuminating tomorrow', supports the message that lies at the heart of Diwali. It honours the values held dear by generations of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across our capital, and celebrates the young people carrying them forward with hope, optimism and positive action.

Londoners and visitors can look forward to an action-packed afternoon filled with music, dance and performances showcasing the creativity and cultural heritage of London’s Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities. And, of course, lots of delicious vegetarian and vegan food.

I want to thank the Diwali in London committee, whose dedication and volunteer spirit bring this wonderful event to life each year.

I’m so proud that Diwali On The Square unites people of all backgrounds, and shows the world that our diversity is our greatest strength, as we build a better London for everyone.

From my family to yours, I wish you a happy and blessed Diwali.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan
