Rangoli project

The Diwali in London team are proud to be associated with GLA, and for the very first time, a floor rangoli will go on display for 3 weeks at the Mayor of London's office during the Diwali season.

Rangoli patterns are a traditional art orm where colourful designs are drawn on the path or entrances of houses to welcome guests during the Festival of Lights.

This year children from Schools across North London and community centres were invited to participate in a floor rangoli which will be presented to the Mayor of London's office on Monday 22nd October, 2007 at 4.00pm.

Leena Pattni, an artist from Harrow has led this exciting visual arts project which brought together many Hindu groups to work over 3 weeks to prepare the 108 pallets which consists of peacock, lamps, elephants and flower motifs. The rangoli will be displayed at the base of the City Hall, so visitors can admire it coming down the spiral walkway.

Please see photos of the first sitting hosted by Sai School of Harrow at Stanburn School in Stanmore, Middx.

The rangoli will be on display at the City Hall, Mayor of London's office until Thursday 8th November, 2007 and is open to the public.
